Robert Michael McDonough Sr., of Clark, New Jersey, passed away on February 12, 2025, at 88, after a brief illness. His son Robert was by his side.

Born May 6, 1936, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Patrick McDonough and Mary McDermott McDonough, Bob devoted his life to service and family.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, stationed in Newfoundland from 1957 to 1959. His commitment to the Navy Construction Battalion continued throughout his life, and he was a dedicated supporter of the Seabee Foundation.

Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for Public Service Electric & Gas, starting his career at PSE&G as a Lineman, then Chief Lineman, and eventually becoming a supervisor.

He retired after 50 years of service.

On October 21, 1962, he married Olga Modesta Sillup. The couple settled in Clark, New Jersey, where they welcomed their daughter MaryMargaret in 1963 and son Robert in 1965.

A man of deep, abiding faith, Robert dedicated himself to community service, particularly as a Boy Scout leader. He had a passion for American history, enjoyed watching the Western TV shows of his youth, and loved crabcakes and Vaccaro’s crumb cakes. An avid and skilled woodworker, he created many beautiful pieces of Arts and Crafts style furniture for his family, which will remain a cherished legacy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga (2019), and his daughter, Mary Margaret (2019). He is survived by his son, Robert.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at St. Agnes Church, 332 Madison Hill Road, Clark. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his memory.
