Date of passing 12/09/2025

Loving Husband, Father, Pop and Brother
US Navy Veteran
Walter “Wayne” Kircher, 92, of Nutley, passed away on December 9, 2025. Born in Newark, he grew up in Maplewood and attended Columbia High School. He moved to Nutley in 1963 where he resided in the house he built. Walter was the son of the late Walter and Naomi (Rooksby) Kircher. He was an electrician with Operating Engineers Local # 68 until retiring in 1996, and a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He began his Navy career in the Navy Reserves later becoming active duty as a Navy Seabee CE3 assigned to MCB8. Upon completing training in Port Hueneme, CA he spent time stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Casablanca, French Moracco. He was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal. Wayne enjoyed riding a 1948 Indian Motorcycle as well as years driving his 1961 T-Bird which he fully restored. He was an avid gardener, always making sure the front of his house looked immaculate and taking care of his fish pond. He enjoyed countless walks through the Nutley parks. Everyone will remember his funny “Wayneisms” and one liners including everything costing a dollar five eighty. His longevity is attributed to his love of ice cream which he enjoyed every single day – one scoop of Holsteins coffee chip and one scoop of peanut butter ripple.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Angela, son Michael and his wife Stephanie, daughters Lisa, Susanne and her husband Tim, and Christine and her husband Chris. His grandchildren CJ, Michael, Wayne, Ella, Eddie, and Jake were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother Raymond and wife Madeline, his favorite nieces and countless people who adored him and called him Pop. He always protected his granddog Danny Boy (Dan) singing to him every time he visited.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4-8pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am, on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Holy Family Church, Nutley, followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery. Bloomfield.
