Michael L. Hornbrook, 73 of Indianapolis, passed away on May 4, 2023. Michael was born to Hershel Leo & Bonnie Ruth (Bray) Hornbrook in Indianapolis, IN on April 27, 1950.
Michael proudly served his country in the US Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War from 1969-1973, some of this time being stationed all over the US, Chu Lai in Vietnam, and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
Upon returning home, he continued to follow his passion of helping others and became a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy of which he dedicated 40 years and 4 months of his life to his love of police work.
Michael was a very humble man who fiercely loved his wife, family, and friends. He always enjoyed spending time traveling and making great memories. In earlier years, he loved riding his motorcycle all over the country with the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Organization and his family. In later years, it brought him great joy traveling down to and enjoying their peaceful property in Kentucky. Michael never met a stranger, just a friend he had yet to make. People were drawn to his larger-than-life personality, smile and kind eyes that always emitted the most joyous, lively light and laughter. Michael was never known for being a churchgoer, but he talked openly and often about his deep love and reverence for his Lord and Savior. Michael has left a lasting impact on so many people and will be deeply missed especially by his family.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Hornbrook, and sister Sue Hahn.
Michael is survived by his wife Rita Hornbrook; children Bonnie (Jeremiah) Moynahan and Daniel (Holly) Hornbrook; 7 grandchildren Adrian, Jaden, Malachi, Keelyn, Kohen, Hudson, and Maverick.
