PO2/CE2

Date of birth 06/03/1947
Date of passing 09/21/2025

Mark R. Meinster passed away on September 21, 2025, in Baltimore, MD. Born on June 3, 1947, and raised in Pocomoke, MD, he was the son of the late Dr. Leon Meinster and Nell Meinster. Mark’s life was a testament to love, family, and service.

A beloved husband, Mark shared a marriage of 43 years with his wife, Jan Hitchens Meinster (and over 47 years since their first date). He was a wonderful father to Matthew Meinster and they were extremely close. Mark’s memory will also be treasured by his siblings and in-laws, Judith M. Holland, Robert Meinster (Pattie), and Douglas Meinster (Laura Beth), JD Barefoot and Dan Hitchens (Patty), eleven nephews and nieces, and seventeen great-nephews/nieces. Mark was predeceased by a brother-in-law (Wayne Holland) and a sister-in-law (Jo Barefoot).

Mark graduated from Pocomoke High School and his higher education journey began at Salisbury University. He served his country with honor as a Viet Nam era veteran and proud member of the Navy Seabees. He made close Seabee friendships that lasted the rest of his life, and he was able to join with them at several reunions. There was never a shortage of Seabee stories to be shared. His commitment to service extended into his civilian life, where he worked for many years at United Parcel Service.

Mark enjoyed music and had an uncanny ability to identify oldies songs after hearing just a few notes. He enjoyed playing the guitar. Mark found pleasure in golf, hunting, and fishing, embracing the outdoors with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. Mark was also an avid photographer, who enjoyed taking photos of the great outdoors, family and friends.

Those who knew Mark will remember him as a loving, intelligent, and funny individual. Mark’s sense of humor was a gift that he generously shared and he always had a joke or cartoon to share.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Service arrangements will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Seabee Foundation (https://www.seabee.org/support/donate/) or St. Jude’s Hospital.
