Date of birth 08/03/1934
Date of passing 09/23/2024

John H. Jacobs, 90, of East Litchfield, passed away Sept. 23, 2024, following a brief illness.

John was born on Aug. 3, 1934, to Rudolph Jacobs and Evelyn (Madin) Jacobs. Following graduation from Oliver Wolcott Technical School in 1952, John served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was a member of the Seabees, a role he cherished and took great pride in.

During his service, John traveled all over the world, helping to build and support vital infrastructure. His time in the Seabees left a lasting impression on him, and he loved reminiscing with fellow veterans, attending reunions and reflecting on their shared experiences.

After his military service, John worked as a skilled electrician working at both Anaconda Brass Co. and Jamieson Manufacturing. Outside of his profession, John found great joy in working on Cub Cadet tractors and spending time outdoors.

He and his wife Nelda shared many memorable adventures together in retirement, camping and exploring the country in their Roadtrek camper. A lifelong enthusiast of Mercedes automobiles, John took pride in owning and maintaining them throughout his life.

John was a member of the East Litchfield Volunteer Fire Company. As a past chief, he inspired those around him with his commitment to protecting and serving his community. His legacy of service lives on through his son and granddaughters who followed in his footsteps and became volunteer firefighters themselves.

John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nelda Jacobs of Litchfield; his sons John Jacobs Jr., of Litchfield, and Karl Jacobs and wife Lisa of Hampton, N.H.; granddaughters Julia Torrant and husband Adam of Harwinton, and Jenna Jacobs of Hampton, N.H.; great-granddaughters Averyll and Lily Torrant of Harwinton; as well as brothers Harry Jacobs and wife Elizabeth of Yakima, Wash., and Peter Jacobs and wife Eleanor of Harwinton; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful care received from the staff at Valerie Manor, and the hospice nurses at Hartford HealthCare at Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department, 365 E. Litchfield Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will be private.
