Thomas Paul DeRaleau, 58, of Miller Road, New Castle, passed away in the early morning of Jan. 21, 2022, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1963, in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Tom lived in West Springfield, Massachusetts, until 1972. He moved to York, Pennsylvania in 1973, where he attended and graduated from Dallastown Area Schools in 1981.
Tom enlisted in the Navy Seabees as a construction electrician in July of 1981. His tour of duty included Great Lakes, Orlando, Gulfport, Norfolk, Port Hueneme, Guam, Puerto Rico, Okinawa, and was honorably discharged in July of 1986.
Tom attended Penn State University main campus, Happy Valley for three semesters, beginning in fall of 1986, where he met his wife, Cathy. He transferred to Penn State York, and earned an associate’s degree in electricale egineering technology in 1990. He later earned a bachelor of science in same degree from Penn State Capital Campus in 1992.
Tom and Cathy were married on May 30, 1993, and lived in York, Pennsylvania until 1995, when they relocated to Buffalo, New York, until 2003, until setting permanently in New Castle.
Currently three of their five children attend the Union Area School District; his oldest son is a senior at YSU; and, his oldest daughter is a sophomore at SRU.
Tom enjoyed being a handyman around the home with repairs, and loved his back yard garden.
Tom is survived by his mother Phyllis Steiger DeRaleau of York, Pennsylvania; wife, Cathy Andrews DeRaleau, and their five children, David, Elisabeth, Joseph, Charlotte, and Nina, all of New Castle; brothers, Richard (Diane) DeRaleau of South Carolina, James DeRaleau of York, Pennsylvania; sisters, Ann O’Donnell of Massachusetts, and Karen DeRaleau of York, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard G. DeRaleau; sister, Mary Ellen; and brother-in-law, Peter O’Donnell.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 Mill St., New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct full Military Honor for Tom at the funeral home, immediately following visitation.
Burial will be in the National Cemetery of Alleghenies.
