PO3/CD3
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and all around great guy, Richard “Dick” Melvin Myran has been called home by our heavenly Father. Dick passed on peacefully on Sunday May 24, 2020, in the company of his loving and caring wife, Yvonne.
Dick was born March 7, 1935, in Cherry Grove Township to Melvin and Rachel (Hoseth) Myran, the third of five children. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school, graduating from Wanamingo High School in 1953. He was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota, where he was baptized as a baby and confirmed in 1949. A U.S. Navy veteran, he enlisted in March 1952. He was stationed at Port Huename, Calif., where he then shipped off on active duty to the Philippine Islands. On June 26, 1954, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Miller, at St. John’s Lutheran in Mazeppa. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy in November 1957, he and Yvonne moved back to Zumbrota, where he went to work for Bob Seely Ford. Dick was an outstanding auto mechanic, an absolute genius with virtually anything with an engine and transmission. In 1973, the family business Myran’s Auto Repair was launched, which eventually transformed to Myran’s Power Equipment. Dick worked very hard and wisely to keep his customer’s equipment running and satisfaction levels high. Dick served two terms as a school board member, local American Legion for 50 years, Lions Club and Lands Lutheran Church. He loved going to auctions, restoring antique gasoline engines, collecting gas engines, beer steins, clocks, watches and rocks.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; four sons, Micheal (Debbie), Scott (Patti), Neal and William; grandchildren, Erik, Jacob, Curtis, Samantha, Mikala and Grace Myran; and great-grandchildren, Jazmyne, Alyssa, Addison and Bennett Myran. Among his numerous lifelong friends, special recognition goes to James Shaler. In his last years, Dick was a victim of dementia; he’s now relieved of that burden.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 29 at Lands Lutheran for immediate family only in the church with overflow capacity in the church parking lot. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Kidney Foundation or Heartland Hospice.
