Burton Strong Mollohan, 94, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 27, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude “Trudy” (Carr) Mollohan for 72 years.

Born in Evanston, Il., he was the son of the late Earl P. and Eva M. (Graff) Mollohan.

Following his High School graduation, Burton entered the United States Navy and was a member of the Seabees during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the European Freedom Medal.

After the service, Burton worked as a Linotype Operator at the Chicago Tribune, National Press, and the Providence Journal. He was the owner / operator of the family business, Mollohan Typesetting.

Burton was a member of the Island 1 Seabees, a life member of the Seabees Museum, a member of The American Legion Post 2 in West Warwick, and was the West Warwick Town Sargent since 1980, (currently the oldest in the United States).

Burton was a member of the West Warwick Retirement Board, and the Board of Canvassers. He also worked alongside his wife as a volunteer at the RI Community Food Bank for over 20 years.

He is survived by his four sons: Dr. Wayne Mollohan and wife Deborah (Bramblett) Mollohan of Scituate, R.I., Steven Mollohan and wife Susan Monica-Mollohan of Derry New Hampshire, Brian Mollohan and wife Karen (Israel) Mollohan of Epping New Hampshire, and Terrence Mollohan and husband Dr. Mark Hand of Zebulon, North Carolina, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Earl P. and Kenneth Mollohan.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Burton’s memory made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 249 Danielson Pike, North Scituate, RI 02857 would be appreciated using the link provided in the donations section below.
