ROBERT J. NOFTLE Sr, age 90, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023 in Zephyr Hills FL, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Faith I. Noftle (Martin). He is predeceased by two sons, John D. Noftle and Peter M. Noftle and his brother Walter Noftle.
He was born on July 24, 1932 to Matthew Noftle and Celia Ann Noftle. He was a graduate of Chelsea High School, class of 1950. After high school he spent four years in the Navy, mostly as a Seabee, MCB6 Construction Battalion stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba during the Korean War.
After serving his country in the Navy, he became a certified scuba diver and a member of the Chelsea Bluefins, that were often called on for rescue and retrieval emergencies. He then worked for many years at United Parcel Service, ascending to District Manager before leaving the company to pursue his own sporting goods business. He eventually went back to commercial driving as a short haul driver for several local freight companies as a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 25, until his retirement.
He leaves behind his cherished children; Son Robert J. Noftle Jr and his wife Deborah Noftle (Lawrie) of Medina, Ohio. Son William M. Noftle and his wife Louise Noftle (Harmon) of Tewksbury, MA. Son Thomas W. Noftle of Tewksbury, MA along with his fiancé Laura Majore of Merrimack NH. And Daughter Marie Mallahan of Zephyr Hills, FL.
He also leaves behind his beloved sisters Margaret Cassidy of Spring Hill, FL and Dorothy Shearin of Holy Springs, NC, sister-in-law Judith Noftle (Tancredi) of Medford, MA as well as eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for May at the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, Tewksbury, MA., details are yet to be finalized.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to The Special Olympics, in his name.
