Bobby Lewis McMillan, 89, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Sweet Springs, West Virginia.
One of 10 children, he was born in Milburn, West Virginia to Foy William and Roberta Fleming McMillan. He grew up in Gap Mills, West Virginia and attended Gap Mills High School.
Bobby was honored to serve in the US Navy as a Seabee for 4 years and he achieved a First Class Petty Officer rank and served aboard the USS Genesee. Following his military service, he attended WV State College and received his Bachelor’s in Education in 1962. In 1972, Bobby obtained his Master’s in Administration from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He later received his Master’s in Education from East Carolina University.
Bobby was an educator and taught in the public school system for several years. During his teaching career, he taught in Charleston, WV, Winston Salem, NC, he then went on to teach Drivers Education at Kinston High School in Kinston, NC before retiring 1996.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving in the community and was a member of several organizations which included the Civitan Club, Boy Scouts of America, VFW Post 2771, and the American Legion. Bobby was also a member of the Eastern Bluegrass Association.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Wickline McMillan; son, William Keith McMillan and wife, Paula Fisher McMillan of Kinston; granddaughter, Margaret Alison McMillan of Roanoke, Va.; sisters, JoAnne Hart and husband, Patrick of St. Albans WV, Linda Cook and husband, Pete of Covington, Va.; brothers in law, Jack Harmon of Covington, Va, Clyde Wickline and wife, Carol of Sweet Springs, WV, Robert Wickline of Middleburg Heights, OH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Gladys Naylor and husband, Clark, Norma Paxton and husband, Woodie, Jeanette Baker and husband, Henry, Margaret McMillan, Alden McMillan and wife, Ruby, John and wife, Betty, and Joyce Harmon.
The McMillan family would like to extend their gratitude to Bobby’s loving and caring friends, neighbors, his nurse Heather Henderson, and to Community Care Hospice for their passionate care.
