1926 – 2021
Lynn – Thomas F. Neary, 94 of Lynn, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 surrounded by family. Husband of the late Barbara F. (Tombino) Neary with whom he shared 54 years of marriage before her death in 2005. Born in Lynn, the son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Egan) Neary. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School. He has lived in Lynn all of his life.
He volunteered for the US Navy at 17 and proudly served in WWII’s US Naval Construction Battalion, known as the Navy Seabees. He was a Carpenters Mate and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He worked for General Electric Company in Lynn with the Air Craft Engine Group. He retired in 1991 after 41 years of devoted service with General Electric. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s Parish in Lynn and was a devoted Catholic. He enjoyed listening to Irish music on weekends while tinkering with his many projects. He was a gifted athlete throughout his life, focused mainly on golf, fishing, bowling, horseshoes and shooting a game of pool later in life. Even in his 80’s he enjoyed a game of wiffleball and numerous camping trips with his grandkids. He looked forward to reunions with extended family and friends each August on his birthday. Above all else he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed.
He leaves two sons, Peter and David, son in law Harry Hansen, seven daughters Nancy, Laura, Christine, Donna, Marcia, Jodi and Jennifer Neary, brothers in law Fran Madden and Fred Nelson , sisters in law Frances Tombino and Anne Neary, 17 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and two exceptional longtime friends Bill Pierce and Rick Morse. He was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Hines, Helen Madden and Bette Nelson, three brothers , John, James and Leo Neary, a brother in law Richard Tombino whom he thought of as a brother.
