Final Salute

Richard (Dick) Frederick Heine Jr. passed away August 9, 2021, after battling Alzheimer’s disease. Dick was born April 18, 1939, raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is survived by his wife Cindy of 57 years, his son Rich and his wife Kara, his daughter Marcy and her husband Wes, Dick’s sister Julie Jamison, and his niece Becky Roof and nephew Randy Roof.

Dick retired a highly decorated Captain in the US Navy, Civil Engineer Corp and Navy SEABEES. Duties included CICC, ROICC, Public Work Officer at Naval Shipyard Bremerton and Naval Submarine Base Bangor Washington. After 30 years of building and maintaining Naval Facilities both in the United States and on foreign shores. After retirement Dick moved on to help find homes for those who didn’t have one. He nurtured a passion for the arts, music, and science and spent a lifetime transferring that passion to others. He saved lives and created futures.

Dick devoted his life to public service, after retiring from the Navy and settling on Bainbridge Island, Washington, he served on the Board for Compass Housing Alliance, played his trombone in the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra, Bremerton Symphony, Farragut Brass, Bethany Brass and Hometown Band and spent many hours involved in his church Bethany Lutheran Church. He managed his wife’s art business and coordinated her many art shows. Dick never stopped travelling, even after travelling the world in the Navy, he and his wife travelled all over the US and Canada in their RV.
He touched many lives in his adventures. No, there is no closure, just the spring of life and living, evolving through others, through me, and you.

This will honor Dick and all he has done for the community by giving back to the organization that gave the family resources and information needed to care for him. All funds raised will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and to advance research towards methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
A service will be held Sunday, September 5 at 1pm, Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road N.E., Bainbridge Island Washington.
