Final Salute

Danny Lee Motley, age 70 of Moneta passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 3, 1955, the son of Carlton Motley and Margaret Motley. Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Motley; son, Evan Motley; two step-sons, Drew Burnette (Alexandra) and Zach Burnette (fiancé, Sabrina); three step-grandchildren, Raelyn, Kodi and Brynn Burnette; mother, Margaret Motley; two sisters, Patti Palmer (Don) and Laurie Oakley (Timmy); nephews, Ethan Oakley and Logan (Rylee) Palmer; nieces, Elizabeth Palmer and Emily (Scott) Oakley; great-nephew, Robert Palmer; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Danny retired as a Naval Captain with 41 years of military service in the United States Navy, serving as a Seabee during Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield and the Global War on Terror. He also retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad as an Industrial Developer. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2026. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
