Carl B. Brink Jr. Obituary

Carl B. Brink, Jr., 84, died peacefully at his home in Bamberg on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, after battling pancreatic cancer since August.

Born March 6, 1931 in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of the late Carl B. Brink Sr. and Mary Naslund Brink. He was raised in West Hartford, Conn. and attended St. Andrews School in Barrington, R.I.

After serving in the Navy Seabees during the Korean War, Carl returned to Hartford and was a firefighter before starting his first career in plumbing and heating ultimately holding master plumber licenses in New Hampshire and Vermont.

While in Hartford he met the love of his life and “best friend” Joan Silloway. They were married on Sept. 27, 1953, in Bradford, Vt. and were together for nearly 60 years before Joan’s death in December 2012.

Carl and Joan moved to Hanover, N.H. in 1957 and in 1963 started their own plumbing business. Together they built a business with an earned reputation for quality work and 24-hour service. Carl’s truck with the leaky faucet logo was a common sight on Hanover streets. In 1969, Carl started his second career when he was hired by the Hanover Water Works Co. as the Superintendent of Works. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1993. During his tenure he oversaw several major expansions of the Hanover Water Works system. He also served as President of the New Hampshire Water Works Association and as a Board member of the New England Water Works Association.

Carl and Joan enjoyed a retirement filled with golf and following their grandsons’ athletic careers. Retiring to Bamberg, they summered in Thetford, Vt. and were active members of Paw Paw Country Club in Bamberg and Lake Morey Country Club in Fairlee, Vt. They made lifelong friends wherever they went.

Carl was a kind and generous man with a ready smile and an outreached hand. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan and his sister Virginia Woodward.

He is survived by his son, Russell Brink of Eugene, Ore., grandson, Ben Brink (Hillary), great-grandchildren, Garrett and Ellie Brink of Katy, Texas, grandson, Alex Brink (fiancée, Joani Jones) of Portland, Ore. and granddaughter, Tilly Bremner-Brink of Springfield, Ore. He is also survived by his “daughter” Jennifer Haliski of Eugene OR who cared for him in his last days and his traveling companion Murdell Sandifer of Bamberg who brought him great joy in their adventures together.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. at Cooner Funeral Home in Bamberg. Internment will follow next summer in Bradford, Vt.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Alex Rosemurgy and his staff at Florida Hospital and Grove Park Hospice for their compassionate care.

Cooner Funeral Home, LLC of Bamberg is assisting the Family.
