Stanley E. “Pete” Lore, 89, of Muncy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Unityville, he was a son of the late LaRue and Edna (Hunsinger) Lore. On Feb. 23, 1957, Pete married Grace Jean Ryder, and recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy, where he was a Builder Chief Petty Officer. Pete graduated from the Navy Builders School in 1953, the Naval Reserve Instructor’s School in 1955, and the Career Counselor School of the Naval Reserve in 1977. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve Seabees as a Builder Chief Petty Officer, and was Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Reserve Battalion 21st Detachment 09 of Williamsport.

Pete was a self-employed building contractor for over 40 years. He was a member of the Picture Rocks Baptist Church. He was also past commander of the American Legion Post 35, Hughesville, a member of the Muncy V.F.W., former president of the Hughesville Little League, Cub Scout Master in Hughesville, and a member, and former president of the West Branch Builders Association. He enjoyed woodworking, building doll houses for his grandchildren, reading, traveling, dancing, and square dancing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Grace, are two daughters, Leigh (Gerald) Houseknecht, of Muncy, and Marcia (Donald) Smith, of Muncy; a son, Peter (Diane) Lore, of Plain City, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Lore, of Fort Washington, Md., and Clarence “Brig” (Janet) Lore, of Unityville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Marc Lore Houseknecht; a great-granddaughter, Emma Fogleman; and a sister, Bessie “Dutch” Arter.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, 50 Elm St., Picture Rocks, with Pastor Jerry L. Uppling officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Military honors will be accorded by combined veteran’s organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s name to the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, P.O. Box 408, Picture Rocks, PA 17762, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.
