Raymond A. Camara, 91, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hosptial in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Pauline M. (Peckham) Camara. Raymond was born in Fall River, the son of the late Arthur A. and Belinda (Cotta) Camara.

He was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport class of 1950. Mr. Camara served his country with the Seabees RMCB12, United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. Raymond owned and operated Ray’s Building and Restoration for over thirty years, eventually semi- retiring in 1981, as chief builder. He continued to work and do small jobs up until 2018 when he hung up his hammer as he said. He also had a garden and loved to grow vegetables.” Mr. Camara was a Master carpenter who specialized in restoration and remodeling.

He was a longtime communicant of Saint Theresa Church in Tiverton. Ray assisted with the building committee at Saint Theresa’s and was very active at the church. He was a member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun club, taught the Hunter Safety Course for the State of Rhode Island, member of the former Portsmouth Rod and Gun Club, the Rhode Island Builder’s Association, life time member of the National Rifle Association, lifetime member of the Woodrow Silva VFW Post#5392 in Tiverton and the Little Compton Post#37 American Legion, Knights of Columbus Father Boehr Council #4753 and the Rhode Island State Rifle and Revolver Association.

Survivors are a daughter: Victoria J. Thompson and her husband Christopher of Melbourne, FL: sons: Allen R. Camara and his wife Laurie Sabol of Ayer, MA; Raymond B. Camara of New England, North Dakota; Bradley A Camara and his wife Olga of Fall River and John Brandao of Tiverton; nine grandchildren: Raymond, Heather, John, Jason, Raymond, Hollie, Toni-Marie, William and Debbie; 11 great grandchildren: Hailey, Autumn, Jason, Mackenzie, Trinity, Nickolas, Jessica, Sophia, Marianna, Christian and Joseph; a sister: Annette Foltz of Illinois; a brother: Robert A. Camara of Tiverton; along with several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Christine L. Davis; grandfather of the late Jennifer Camara and brother of the late Barbara M. Lopes.

Calling Hours for Mr. Camara will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 4-7pm in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 8:45 am from the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow with Military Honors in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton.
