John E. Regish, 76, of Avon, CT passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at UConn Hospital after a brief illness.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Laurie Fitzgerald Regish. He is survived by his son, Jason Regish of Waynesville, NC, daughter, Taryn Pratt (Alyson) of Phoenix, AZ and granddaughter, Elizabeth Regish (Joanna) of Beavercreek, OH; his sister, Patricia Woods of New Port Richey, FL and brother, Paul Regish (Julie) of East Hartford, CT. He also leaves his beloved great-grandchildren, Abby/Max, Olivia and Matthew Ziemba, along with Gracie and Ada Hensley. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who also loved his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his family, he leaves behind a large number of friends, colleagues, and fellow Veterans. Several days a week, he and his Veteran buddies met at BeanZ in Avon to enjoy coffee and cribbage where they shared stories and laughs.
He graduated from Canton High School, class of 1966 and went on to study construction/ engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. He used his talents and education to become a well-respected and accomplished carpenter tradesman having his own business for many years.
In 1968, he enlisted with US Naval Seabees and deployed to Vietnam in July 1969. His activities in Vietnam included rebuilding a 260ft bridge in 10 days, civic actions projects, and upgrading a Vietnamese Naval Base. He returned home in March 1970.
In his later years, he was proud to be a member of the VFW Post 3272 in Avon, CT. He loved spending time with his fellow veterans and working the annual poppy drive. In addition to his time with the VFW, John was a passionate woodworker who made furniture, cutting boards, coasters, cribbage boards, or anything you could think of.
John and his wife had the opportunity to live not only in Connecticut but in Arizona and North Carolina where he developed many friendships that he held close and enjoyed through the years. He will be greatly missed by many.
His family will receive friends Friday, March 28, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon.
