Oscar Sembrano Miranda, Sr., 79 years old, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
He was born in Castillejos, Zambales, Philippines on September 4, 1941, and was the eldest son of the late Rufino, Sr., and Felisa Miranda of the Philippines. Oscar was a Virginia Beach resident for 43 years. He is survived by his wife, Elisa (Ely) Amurao of 49 years and his 5 children Oscar, Jr., of Massachusetts, Richard of Rhode Island, and Joyce Miller (Dan), Grace Ramos (Richard), and Mark of Virginia Beach. Oscar’s surviving siblings, Eduardo (Estrella) of the Philippines; Marietta Augustin (Arturo) of the Philippines; Imelda Agbayani (Robert) of Alaska; Rufino, Jr., (Remy) of California; Antonio (Elsa) of Nevada, and Teresita Viray (Joselito) of Alaska; 7 grandchildren Tyler, Hailey, Lauren, Miranda, Elisa, Gabriella, and Daniel, Jr., and numerous nephews and nieces.
Oscar served with honor in the US Navy in the construction battalion Seabees for 21 years and 2 tours in the Vietnam War. He then worked as a planner & estimator for the Public Works Center at the Norfolk Naval Base and retired after 13 years of service at the end of 1997. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus until his health began to decline.
Visitation with the family will be held between the hours 5 pm to 7 pm EST, Thursday, January 28th, followed by a wake service at 7 pm at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark, 1505 Kempsville Rd, Virginia Beach on Friday, January 29th at 1 pm EST by Father Anthony Mpungu (a live stream option can be found on the Catholic Church of Saint Mark Facebook page) followed by a private burial at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
