February 1, 1937 – January 6, 2023
Modesto, California – Lloyd Grant Chambers passed away peacefully a month shy of his 86th birthday after living a long and well lived life. Lloyd was born in Los Angeles, California in 1937. He was big in stature and in life. He served in the Navy Seabees for 22 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was immensely proud of his military service and loved sharing stories from his years in the service. After retirement from the US military, he went back to school and earned his AA degree from Modesto Junior College. Lloyd became an officer for the California Department of Corrections, serving in Soledad and Tracy. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and happily converted to Catholicism before he was married. Lloyd believed firmly that God was in control and was never too shy to share his testimony with others. He is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 59 years, Laura Mae Chambers. Together they had quite a love affair stationed throughout the Southern US. Lloyd was an Amateur Radio Operator and enjoyed talking with people from all over the world. Reading and singing brought Lloyd a lot of joy, he was never without a book and loved singing both in and out of church. He was intensely proud of his Scottish heritage and had fun visiting local Highland games, always wearing his kilt. He and his wife thoroughly enjoyed traveling in their RV, visiting family, friends, and attending Seabee reunions. They had 4 children; Polly Ann Sifers(Robert), Lloyd Chambers Jr., Diana Lynn Chambers ( deceased 1971), and James Robert Chambers (Jennifer). Six grandchildren blessed their lives and Grandpa was so proud of all of them; John Saunders, Alicia Chambers, Laura Spears (AJ), Veronica Sifers, Elijah Chambers, and Benjamin Chambers. Nine great grandchildren were the joy of his life, Bryan, Isaac, Elizabeth, and Holly Saunders, Ezekiel and Armando Lopez, AJ jr. and Cora Spears, and Betty Jean Sifers. Lloyd leaves an incredible legacy of love for his family and those who knew him. His family will miss his big bear hugs and huge smile. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Valley Comfort in Modesto, for their patience and outstanding care of Lloyd while he was a resident. A service for Lloyd will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Thursday January 12, 2023 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests giving a donation to vfw.org in honor of Lloyd’s service in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
