John Patrick “Pat” Erwin, Sr., a man of remarkable skills and generous spirit, passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 74 in Springfield, Missouri. Born on December 28, 1949, in Taneyville, Missouri, to the late Bert Erwin and Velma Emma (Owens) Erwin.
Pat proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy Naval Seabees and continued his service in the reserves. His dedication to his nation was mirrored in his commitment to his work and family. After his military service, he returned to his roots in Taneyville, where he began a career in construction with Claude Koenig, Jr. Pat’s skill with concrete was well-known, and he worked alongside James Scott, specializing in concrete flatwork until just three months before his passing.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Rhoda (Gilbert) Erwin, his son John P. Erwin, and Michael Sanchez, whom he raised like a son. Pat’s memory will also be cherished by his sister Gloria Bielicke and her husband Joe, sister Helen Curtin, brother Bert D. Erwin and his wife Yuriko, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and warmth.
Pat was a man of many talents and was often heard saying, “I’ll take care of it,” a phrase that encapsulated his dependable and proactive nature. There was hardly anything he couldn’t fix, and his hands were rarely still. His love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. Fishing and hunting were not just hobbies but passions that brought him closer to the nature he so loved. Many will recall the serene image of Pat sitting on his back porch, watching the wildlife with a content smile on his face.
A family directed Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Erwin Family Farm (located at Highway 76 & Dresden Dr. – Look for concrete trucks and a large American flag). Military honors will be rendered at 12:30 p.m. at this same location.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure”.
