Norwich – James A. “Jim” Fowler Jr., 85, a longtime Norwich resident, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. Jim was raised by his foster parents Eleanor and Alfred Williams in Franklin and was the loving husband of Elsie E. Garland for 54 years. They were married May 21, 1966, eventually settling in Norwich.

He gave 30 years to the U.S. Navy Seabees having served 24 years, 9 months on active duty. He worked more than 19 years at Electric Boat in the model shop working on models of new subs.

Jim was happiest fishing or watching sports. He played baseball and touch football with the Seabees with his family cheering him on!

In addition to his wife Elsie, he is survived by two daughters, Elsie E. Fowler of Brooklyn and Janiss M. Fowler of Wallingford; his son James A Fowler III of Jewett City; grandchildren, Ashley Moriarty of Brooklyn and Ryan Scott Wilson of St. Peters, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Arianne Moriarty of Brooklyn and Kaegan Moriarty of Brooklyn; his niece Christina Mae Wilson of Norwich; and his foster sister Janiss Rudolph. He was predeceased by his son James Alfred Fowler.

The Woyasz & Son Funeral Home is assisting with private arrangements.
