David Thomas Lowe Jr., of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died Friday of Alzheimer’s disease at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. His wife of 59 years is the former Linda K. (Hess).

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late David Thomas Sr. and Aldona Zakarusks Lowe. He attended Scranton schools and graduated high school from the Johnson School of Technology. He proudly served in the United States Navy Seabees and served two tours in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969, where he received an accommodation from General Westmoreland. Before retirement, he was self-employed as the owner of D&C Rug Installation where he was known as “Dave the Carpetman.” He was an avid hunter and fisherman but golf was his real passion. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish Club and the World Floor Covering Association.

Also surviving are two daughters and a son, Lynn Catalano and husband, Joseph, Clarks Summit, Lori McLaughlin and husband, Sean, Scranton, and David, Scranton. He had eight grandchildren, Danielle Catalano, Kellie and James Durkee, Reinor, Braxton and Roman Lowe, Meghan and Liam McLaughlin. He had two great-grandchildren, Emerson Catalano and Kaiden Durkee.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Durkee; and brothers, Raymond and Charles Lowe.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday with a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave. Family and friends may pay their respects starting at 10 a.m. until the start of the Mass at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted and are under the care of the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave.
