Company Information

NNSA’s Office of Acquisition and Project Management (APM) is responsible for all contracting and project management of all capital projects over $20M, including construction and major items of equipment.  With offices at all NNSA sites, APM contracts for ~$15B a year and typically conducts >$1B of construction each year.  APM is continuously interested in hiring contract specialists (principally in Washington, DC and Albuquerque, NM) and project managers with experience in large capital acquisitions, at NNSA’s field locations.

Much of NNSA’s work, including construction, is conducted by its Management and Operating (M&O) partners that operate the sites and employ the bulk of NNSA’s 44,000 employees.  Construction craft personnel (e.g. former Seabees) are in great demand at all our sites as NNSA is conducting unprecedented construction to recapitalize the nation’s nuclear security infrastructure.  The M&O contractors need construction managers and construction workers to build these projects.

NNSA’s Missions:

  • Maintain the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile through application of unparalleled science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Prevent nuclear weapon proliferation and reduce the threat of nuclear and radiological terrorism around the world.
  • Respond to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Provide the U.S. Navy with militarily effective nuclear propulsion plants and ensure their safe, reliable, and long-lived operation.

NNSA was established by Congress in 2000 but traces its roots back to the Manhattan Project. After World War II, the Atomic Energy Commission and National Laboratory system were created to oversee future research into atomic science and technology. Today, the Nuclear Security Enterprise consists of about 44,000 federal and contract employees at labs, plants, and sites nationwide.
