The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is an American scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce that focuses on the conditions of the oceans, major waterways, and the atmosphere.  The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the Department of Commerce (DOC), is a governmental agency charged with the mission of stewardship for living marine resources.
